Great News: Thousands Get Local Healthcare Boost as MP Reopens Gordon Street Surgery.

A significant healthcare boost has arrived for thousands of local residents following the official reopening of Gordon Street Surgery at its original site. The move comes after ten thousand people faced challenges accessing healthcare when the surgery relocated last year.

Gordon Street Reopens: MP Jacob Collier joins NHS staff at re-opening.

The GP surgery had previously been rated inadequate by the Care Quality Commission, leading to the termination of its contract by the Integrated Care Board. Consequently, the surgery was temporarily moved to two alternative locations within Burton, with patients being allocated to sites near Queen's Hospital Burton and in Hill Street, Stapenhill.

This relocation caused considerable concern and uncertainty for many residents who relied on the surgery's close proximity, particularly those with mobility issues, those who don't drive, or those unable to use public transport.

Since the Care Quality Commission rating and subsequent relocation, the new management team at Gordon Street Surgery has been working to enhance its healthcare provision, with a key focus on returning to the former premises.

Their efforts culminated yesterday, Monday 24th March, when the local MP for Burton and Uttoxeter, Jacob Collier, officially reopened Gordon Street Surgery at its original location. This reopening has been met with considerable relief by the thousands of worried residents who depend on the service.

Speaking after the reopening event, Mr Collier said: β€œResidents relied on Gordon Street Surgery; having a GP nearby was a lifeline for so many. For those who do not drive, have mobility issues or are unable to use public transport, the relocation last year was devastating and severely impacted their healthcare access. I’m delighted to have been able to reopen Gordon Street Surgery at its original location, providing local healthcare for those in need once more. It was great to meet the new surgery team and hear their dedication to providing an accessible healthcare service of high quality for those in the area.”

Highlighting the significance of the surgery's return, Matt Edwards, Business Operations Manager for Gordon Street Surgery, said: β€œWe are absolutely delighted to be back in the community. We’re really excited about the future here, and working collaboratively with our patients and our community leaders to really shape the future of the practice and the future of healthcare in this area.”

Also present at the official reopening were Mayor Shelagh McKiernan, representatives from local healthcare organisations including Everyone Health Staffordshire, the East Staffordshire District Patient Engagement Group, and the East Staffordshire Patient Care Network, as well as faith leaders from the community.
