East Staffordshire is set to embrace a week-long celebration of sustainability and community engagement as the Great Big Green Week returns from 7th to 14th June 2025. This annual event, the UK's largest for climate and nature action, promises a diverse lineup of activities across the borough, aiming to inspire residents to take meaningful steps towards a greener future.
A Week of Eco-Friendly Events
From vegan markets and family fundays to walking trails and sustainability workshops, there's something for everyone. Highlights include:
Green Market: Kicking off the week on 7th June in Burton upon Trent, this market will showcase local sustainable products and initiatives.
Slow Cooker Workshop – Bolognese: On 11th June, learn how to prepare eco-friendly meals that save energy and reduce waste.
Climate Policy Impact Simulator Workshop: Scheduled for 12th June, this interactive session will explore the effects of various climate policies.
Open Day at The Greenhouse: On 13th June, visit this hub for sustainable living and discover practical ways to reduce your carbon footprint.
Tales and Trails: Concluding the week on 14th June, enjoy storytelling sessions combined with nature walks, perfect for families.
Empowering Local Businesses
A key feature of this year's Green Week is the Green Business Networking event on 11th June at The Brewhouse Arts Centre, Burton upon Trent. Organised by East Staffordshire Borough Council in partnership with the Staffordshire Business and Environmental Network (SBEN), the event aims to support local businesses in adopting sustainable practices. Attendees will benefit from expert talks, networking opportunities, and access to resources like free energy assessments and carbon literacy training.
Community Engagement at Its Heart
The week is not just about events; it's about fostering a community-wide commitment to environmental stewardship. Residents are encouraged to participate, whether by attending events, hosting their own green initiatives, or simply making eco-friendly choices in daily life. The collective effort aims to create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable East Staffordshire.
