Support Cancer Research UK: Help turn Swadlincote pink!
The Cancer Research UK Campaign to 'Turn Swadlincote Pink' for the month of May is well underway. Local businesses, community groups and individuals are all taking part in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the charity that supports research into this debilitating disease that affects 1 in 2 people world wide.

Turning pink can be as simple as displaying the 'Swadlincote Turns Pink' poster with the QR code to enable donations or dressing up a window to be part of the Window Display Competition or organising your own fundraising events. There is no end to types of events you could organise with customers, clients, colleagues, friends and family from coffee mornings, tombolas, raffles, cake sales, dye your hair pink, table top sale, charity auction, games night, BBQ, sponsored event, quiz night... anything... you just need to think pink!
Local businesses in Swadlincote already taking part in the campaign include Ethos Hairdressing, Richardson's Furniture, KC Fish Bar, Hughes and Owen Dentists, The Forresters Pub, Sweet Caroline Cafรฉ, Peggs Bar & Street Food, Lloyds Bank, Forever Mobility, Grimley & Glynn, Dean & Smedley, Specsavers, David Wain Insurance, Charles Agar Shoes, Pound Stretcher, AMR Services, Cadley Hill View Care Home and Swad in Bloom. w The fundraising group have been busy be organising a few of their own events including a Fashion Show on Wednesday 21 May 2025 at Peggs Bar & Street Food, Charity Night at The Indian Palace on the A444 at Stanton on Monday 2 June 2025 while Cadley Hill View Care Home will be theming their 'Tea at Three' event on 28th May. They had a fundraising stand at the Festival of Transport on Sunday 4 May, and a collection at Morrison's in Swadlincote on 9th & 10th May 2025.
The 'Turn Swadlincote Pink' campaign is being organised by the Burton upon Trent and District Fundraising Group for Cancer Research UK with the wonderful Anne Peace at the helm. Taking inspiration from a Yorkshire town who held their 'Turn the Town Pink' event last year, Anne decided to organise 'Turn Burton Pink' last September and raised around ยฃ5,000. Together with fellow fundraiser, Wendy Clarke, they decided to head across the waters to Swadlincote to see if they could surpass Burton's efforts before going back to rerun the campaign in Burton later this year.
Anne, who has had her own painful experiences with cancer and losing loved ones, set up Burton upon Trent and District Fundraising Group for Cancer Research UK some 15 years ago. Since then Anne, and her volunteer fundraising team, have organised every kind of fundraising event imaginable in and around their patch which spans from Ashbourne to Coalville raising thousand's of pounds for Cancer Research UK. They know the funds raised are put to great use. For over 120 years Cancer Research has been leading pioneering research into new methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment for cancer of all types. Today, there are over 200 types of cancer and thanks to the ongoing support for Cancer Research UK, survival rates have doubled in the last 50 years. This work needs to continue so Cancer Research UK can bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.
